"It’s been incredibly exciting to work with Human After All for a second fantastic year. Once again, they’ve surpassed our original brief. With Malika Favre’s beautiful illustrations, they have delivered a campaign that perfectly distills the excitement around the Awards while also capturing the essence and drama of the remarkable films nominated in the Best Film category."

Amanda Berry, CEO
BAFTA

The Challenge

  • BAFTA wanted a campaign that captured the timeless glamour and huge anticipation of its prestigious annual film awards.
  • From the awesome (a poster appearing across London) to the intimate (awards tickets, menus, car passes), this campaign needed to grab attention across a range of formats and media.
  • We would need to art direct, design and co-ordinate printing of all collateral across the 2015 Awards campaign.

The Solution

  • We conceived a concept called 'The Big Reveal' to both evoke and ramp up anticipation for a night that's full of big reveals: stars stepping into the spotlight, flashbulbs in the darkness, winners drawn from envelopes...
  • We commissioned and art directed Malika Favre to create hero imagery across the 2015 campagin from outdoor advertising to online banner ads, the tickets, trailers and more.
  • The central image, which modernised and reimagined film noir and golden-era photographs, captured BAFTA's timeless elegance in bold retro-modern style.
  • We designed guest's tickets, car passes and menus - ensuring all were both beautiful and useful - and took care of printing duties.
  • Working with BAFTA's editorial team, we designed the page layout for the 2015 Film Awards brochure, commissioning and art directing five exclusive covers (each evocating of a nominee for Best Film) featuring more of Favre's artwork.

The Results

  • Nearly 5 million viewers watched the BAFTA Film awards on BBC1, improving further on its great performance the previous year.
  • The BAFTAs were broadcast in 167 territories, in addition to the UK, reflecting the huge global popularity of the ceremony.
  • The 'Big Reveal' ads gave BAFTA a huge presence throughout London, displaying in underground stations and on buses across the city.
